License Agreement
This agreement is between you and the independent developer who makes Folio (“the Folio developer”, “we”, “us”). It governs your use of the Folio application. By installing or using Folio you accept it. What you paid for, and what was promised at the time, is covered by the Terms of Sale.
The license we grant you
We grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Folio for your own purposes, personal or professional.
Your license key includes a number of activations, stated on the pricing page at the time of your purchase. Activating Folio in a Windows user account uses one activation. Restarting, updating or reinstalling Folio in the same account does not. Activating on another computer, in another Windows account, after reinstalling Windows, or after deleting Folio’s own application data uses another. Activations cannot be moved or returned from inside the application.
One license is for one person. It is not a site license for an office, a school or a team.
Your files are yours
We claim no rights over any file Folio reads, catalogs, moves, renames or sends to the Recycle Bin. Your photographs, videos, catalog and folder structure remain entirely yours. This agreement gives us no license to your content, because we never receive it.
What you may not do
- Share, resell, rent, sublicense or publish your license key.
- Redistribute the application, whether modified or not.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the application, except where the law expressly permits it, and only to the extent it permits.
- Remove or alter any copyright, license or attribution notice in the application.
- Use Folio to break the law, including to process files you have no right to handle.
Updates
Every future update of Folio is included for life at no extra cost, major versions included, and so is Folio for macOS when it ships. There is no release date for anything in development, and nothing in this agreement promises one.
Folio checks for updates automatically when it is online. An update is downloaded in the background and its signature is checked before it can be installed. It is never installed while Folio is working on your files. By default, a downloaded update installs the next time you close Folio; you can turn that off in Settings and install updates only when you choose Update now. A failed or skipped update never affects your access to Folio.
Activation and license checks
The first activation needs an internet connection. After that, Folio works offline indefinitely. When it is online, Folio confirms your license with the license server about once a week. Being offline, a slow connection or a server error never removes your access. Only a definite answer from the license server can end it: that the key has been disabled, has expired, belongs to another product, or does not exist. What these checks send is described in the Privacy Policy.
Third-party components
Folio includes open-source components, each covered by its own license. Their notices ship with the application.
No warranty
Folio is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind beyond what the law requires. We do not warrant that it is free of defects or that it meets every requirement you have.
The safety behavior described on this site is what Folio is built to do: it shows a plan before it changes anything, it moves removed copies to the Windows Recycle Bin rather than deleting them, and it checks each change against the plan. That is not a guarantee that no file operation can ever fail. Keeping a real backup of your photographs remains your responsibility. Folio’s catalog is not a backup, and this agreement does not make it one.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability under this agreement is limited to the amount you paid for your license. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, or for the loss or corruption of data.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your rights as a consumer under the law that applies to you.
Ending this license
This license ends if you seriously break its terms, for example by publishing your license key. You must then stop using Folio and remove it. Your files and your catalog are not affected: they stay yours, and they stay where they are.
You may end this license at any time by uninstalling Folio.
Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, and disputes are for the courts of the Republic of Indonesia. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, and you may use its courts.
